The reason why she still looks loving and motherly is because when she was asked to do the role she refused because she didnt wanted to do any "evil" roles, but the convinced her that this queen would be like a sister to Pamina.

This performance is soo much better than her performance in that horrible blue dress. Although, she could be a bit angrier. I still feel like she's too loving and motherly in this one.

She's a great singer, however she didnt acted as the real queen of the night... this aria belongs to Diana Damrau

Hehe. Well, I must admit I'm not the most experienced opera-person, but I truly did enjoy it! What do you feel is not right with it?

I agree with you Damrau has the natural tension that makes her Queen of the Night a cut above. It is a shame she retired that part now.

I agree that the Dessay interpretation would benefit from a more angry approach. Quicker tempo would help. I do think Natalie has a wonderful voice, though. I definatly like this production better than the one where she had on the bright blue dress.

I would agree... but part of me wonders if it is just the performance... I have seen many performances of the aria where it was almost angry... I think the tempo and the acting have something to do with it. I really enjoy Diana Damrau's interpretation of the piece.

I am kind of agree with you. She is amzaing in " l air des clochettes". For this aria, my favorite used to be Dessay, but now, i have to say Damrau is a bite better (Matter of taste, sure)...Yet, i am french, but i have to vote Damrau for this aria |
