No, that's the point of the entire song. "New Math" was a curriculum introduced in the 60s which did include things like base 8.

Maybe because they don't actually cover bases different from base-10 in high school, that's university stuff, at least here. Don't feel bad.

the sad thing is that this was actually the way I was taught, until I went to a dif school district and was 2 grades behind all the other students. I'm 24 now and to this day I still have problems with adding and subtracting.

"7 from 3" = 3-7"8 from 4" = 4-8If you carry the 1 to either 3 or 4, you get "13-7" or "14-8", both of which = 6. Makes sense. |
