True, although I don't see a way to change that currently. Population is growing, cities are growing even more. Hopefully this form of industrial societies aren't the end of the development and one day we care about such things again.I live in a village and when I was a child, in clear winter nights I took my telescope and spend one or two hours outside to watch the stars. That was really cool.I should take a look in the sky tonight and see, if it's clear enough to see the milky way.

Damn ants! Where's my can of RAID?"Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:" (Proverbs 6:6)

My generation and the ones before mine never got to really experience a world with no light...i wonder how it would be. I wish I could see the stars and galaxies every night before i go to bed. I wish our world wasn't so harsh, i wish we could all see the beauty of space and time...My generation never got to experience a time when there was no such thing as the internet or an mp3 player or other things...we just learn to consume and waste materials while someone else is suffering for us.

blame crime. Without night-time lighting crime skyrockets. The entire reason street lamps were invented, paid for and installed was to lower crime.

Wow, this was so cool. I just turned town my monitor light to zero. I would turn off the light in my room, but it must stay on to ward off human predators in my area. We live in a bad area.

I'm not young. My body does things I wish it didn't. I have seen lots of stuff and experienced my share of suffering. I am in awe of you, Pinky. Long may you live and shine your light into other people's worlds!

You're breaking my heart. Pinky. It's falling all apart.

i'm sorry that i didn't elaborate enough in my first comment, i was simply pointing out the ludicrous comment of billions visible, a number the human mind cant truly comprehend. plus in a lot of places on earth u cant see more than few dozen due to light pollution, so between those places and the ones where u can see many thousands, most people only see a few hundred to about a thousand at a time.

dear winterborn82, sorry if I seem a "smartass" to you, but I too have not too good eyesight, but I was astounded at the stars I could see, on a trip to the mountains in Austria, and now I live in NZ, sea level, only 7 miles from a light polluting town, I can see thousands of stars every clear moonless night. You yourself now admit "a thousand at most", yet you last said only 400!! Go to the dark centre of Australia, and you would be dazzled at night. "smartass".
