I'm only guessing - but I think the point here is that if you are gonna check out you may as well do it this way rather than living life risk free so as to be a fragile crippled incontinent dribbling demented mess in a nursing home with relatives who don't visit and with a long term memory which includes absolutely no sense of achievement - then die.
