you are right i ive driven both too. Just yesterday i was in a scirocco. Its a hell of a car. Also I love the fact that in VW you sit very very low. I found the gear ratio a bit long though and i still like the exterior and interior of mito more. Even though the interior of scirocco with the big colourfull touch screen is very hi-tech

I have now driven the Mito 1.4 155hp and the Scirocco 1.4 160hp (in Portugal they cost practically the same and I was in doubt about which one I would buy). The Mito is good, but the Scirocco is in another league. For the same money (€1.500 difference...), there are no second thoughts. The suspension (DCC), the steering, the engine, the interior quality, the rear seats space and the gearbox are a lot better in the Scirocco. The whole VW feels more premium.

The electronics on MiTo are abit ahead concerning technology. A friend of mine has test driven it. He also complains about new age cars with plenty of electronics non-disengagable ESp etc etc. After the test drive he said that electronics are actually a good thing when they are used correct.

Let me tell you. If you like this car buy it. Alfa Romeo is know for making driver's cars. As for the steering the feel is fine at dynamic mode
topografer (January 1, 1970 at 12:59 am)
Well not me but friend of mine(the MiTo). He is not digging cars as much as me but he enjoys them big time. He said that in normal mode the steering is indeed a bit of crap. But in Dynamic mode it becomes as heavy and informative as a steering should be. Well maybe not as much as scirocco's but anyway ok. Anyway Alfa-romeo always built driver's cars and its famous for that. And i have th impression tha scirroco will be just another golf. Have you made any thoughts concerning 207 RC??

Hmmm... I don't care a lot about the confort of the suspension! I'm looking for a driver's car, and I'm not worried about rear seat space or a big boot. The steering and gearbox feeling are important though. I've already read in some car magazines that the steering feel isn't that brilliant... Have you driven the car? What do you reckon? Does it spoil the fun?
topografer (January 1, 1970 at 12:59 am)
i would do so cause MiTo gives you the look and the passion plus it must be more fun to drive it and if u ask me much more safe with all those damm electronics going on. The only thing i would about scirroco having better is that its has more comfortable suspension and maybe better feeling in the steering and gearbox. But the last two dont count thaaat much:)

Well yea maybe its not a hot hatch but its hot anyways:) Hmm about the scirroco. I have also been wondering that myself in the last month. I think that the VW is more complete. Its fast the engine is very good and the chasssis too the control is also great. The quality is top and it also looks good(but get annoyed with it cause in 1-2 years the whole VW brand will look like scirroco. Check golf 6). Its also much more expensive. I would say its better than alfa but I would buy MiTo
odracirseraoseia1999 (January 1, 1970 at 12:59 am)
I totally agree with you. More important than the power is the power to weight ratio, and this little Mito is very good in that department! I just said I don't consider it a hot hatch because I think the latter need an (even) higher PTWR - not that that's a good thing, because like you said, front wheel drive tend to get torque steer with powerful engines.I put a question into discussion in some MiTo movies where I ask which one is better: MiTo 155hp or the Scirocco 160hp. Feel free to answer!
topografer (January 1, 1970 at 12:59 am)
Well you are right about the power but think that you dont actually need a lot of power to have fun with a car. In addition you know you cant have much fun with a very powerfull front wheel cause of understeer. Check the video that is called exactly "New Alfa Romeo MiTo 1,4 Turbo 155hp 0-190km". Also consider that the car is very new and the engine is not "warm" yet. I think its going pretty good for and when the engine will be old enough to bring the power on it will be considerably better!
