hey egypt, I could not locate your comment to reply. About My earlier comment: I got it from wiki. I know that the solar wind is present all year, but wiki says it is not understood why these are visible only around equinoxes. In summer they are not visible due to sun light and long polar days. I don't know about winters.

hmm not to my knowledge as northern lights are caused by ions that come in contact with our atmosphere from the sun, so they would occur at all times of the year. For example i have a family friend that lives in the north west territories and they get the n.lights every 3 days or so.
